![]() ![]() DRUMMOND, MURRAY NAMED SHEPHERD ATHLETES OF THE YEAR SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV --Senior catcher Charlie Drummond (Strasburg, VA/ Strasburg HS) of the Shepherd baseball team and senior guard Cassie Murray (Cumberland, MD/Allegany HS) of the Ram women's basketball team were recently honored as Shepherd Male and Female Athletes of the Year. Drummond, a three-time first team All-WVIAC choice, was named 2004 WVIAC Player of the Year. He led the Rams to their first WVIAC title under head coach Wayne Riser this year with a .414 batting average with 58 hits in 140 at-bats. He paced the Rams in hits (58), total bases (127), home runs (19), slugging percentage (.907), on base percentage (.502), and saves (8). He also tied for the team lead in runs scored (35). Drummond ends a brilliant career with the Rams with numerous school records. He holds the Shepherd single-season marks for home runs (19 - 2004) and shares the single season mark for doubles (17, 2003). Drummond also holds the Shepherd career mark for runs batted in (179). Murray led the Rams in scoring (15.1 ppg), rebounding (8.3 rpg), steals (2.3 spg), and blocked shots (1.0 bpg) this year. She joined Damian Beane (1996-99) of the Ram football team as the only athletes in school history to gain All-WVIAC first team honors for all four years. She also joined former West Liberty great Joanna Bernabei as only the second women's basketball player in the WVIAC to accomplish this feat. Murray completes her career ranked second on the Shepherd all-time scoring list with 1,494 points. Her 768 career rebounds ranked her fifth, while her 248 assists place her eighth on the all-time assist chart. She holds Shepherd career marks for steals (224) and blocked shots (104). Murray also holds Shepherd three-point marks for career three-pointers (161) and single season treys (46 - 2002-03, 2003-04). |
