![]() DRUMMOND NAMED WVIAC PLAYER OF THE YEAR; FOUR OTHER RAMS GAIN CONFERENCE HONORS PRINCETON, WV -- Five members of the Shepherd University baseball team were recently named to the 2004 All-WVIAC Team. Senior catcher Charlie Drummond (Strasburg, VA/Strasburg HS), senior outfielder Josh Delawder (Paw Paw, WV/Paw Paw HS/Potomac State), and junior pitcher Scott Koscielniak (Severn, MD/Old Mill HS/CCBC-Catonsville) were first team selections. Senior outfielder Tavis Laws (Stephens City, VA/Sherando/Eastern Mennonite) was a second team choice, while senior shortstop Jason Walck (Waynesboro, PA/ Waynesboro HS) earned honorable mention accolades. Drummond also earned WVIAC Hitter of the Year and WVIAC Player of the Year honors. Drummond, a first team choice for the third straight year, led the Rams with a .414 batting average with 58 hits in 140 at-bats. He also led the Rams in hits (58), total bases (127), home runs (19), slugging percentage (.907), on base percentage (.502), and saves (8). He also tied for the team lead in runs (35). Drummond ends a brilliant career with the Rams with numerous school records. He holds the Shepherd single-season marks for home runs (19 - 2004) and shares the single season mark for doubles (17, 2003). Drummond also holds the Shepherd career mark for runs batted in (179). Delawder was a first team choice for the second straight year. He batted .389 with 56 hits in 144 at-bats. He also added 22 RBIs and tied for the team lead in runs scored with 35. Delawder led the team in triples with three and also added eight doubles. He topped the team in stolen bases with 13 and was hit-by-pitch a team-best eight times. Koscielniak led the Ram pitching staff with a 8-2 overall mark with a 3.38 ERA. He fanned 39 in 53 1/3 innings. He won his last six decisions, including a win over Concord to clinch the WVIAC Tournament crown. Laws batted .352 for the Rams with 57 hits in 162 at-bats. He also led the team and tied a school single season record with 17 two-baggers. Laws tied for the team lead in runs scored with 35. He was second on the team in stolen bases with 12. His 16 walks were third on the squad. Walck batted .348 with 47 hits in 135 at-bats. He added six doubles, 31 runs scored, and 21 RBIs. Walck concludes an outstanding career at Shepherd's all-time leader in at-bats (598) and assists (423). Shepherd (24-17, 8-7 WVIAC) won seven consecutive games and 14 of its last 18 games en route to its first WVIAC title under head coach Wayne Riser. |
