DRUMMOND TABBED REGIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR; KOSCIELNIAK ALSO GAINS ALL-REGION HONORS

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- Senior catcher Charlie Drummond (Strasburg, VA/Strasburg HS) of the Shepherd University baseball team was named today as the 2004 North Atlantic Region Player of the Year. Joining Drummond on the North Atlantic All-Region team was junior pitcher Scott Koscielniak (Severn, MD/Old Mill HS/CCBC-Catonsville).

Drummond, a first team choice for the third straight year, led the Rams with a .414 batting average. He also led the Rams in hits (58), total bases (127), home runs (19), slugging percentage (.907), on base percentage (.502), and saves (8). He also tied for the team lead in runs (35). Drummond ends a brilliant career with the Rams with numerous school records. He holds the Shepherd single-season marks for home runs (19 - 2004) and shares the single season mark for doubles (17, 2003). Drummond also holds the Shepherd career marks for runs batted in (179) and grand slams (4).

Koscielniak, a second team selection, led the Ram pitching staff with a 8-2 overall mark with a 3.38 ERA. He fanned 39 in 53 1/3 innings. He won his last six decisions, including a win over Concord to clinch the WVIAC Tournament crown.

Members of the first team will appear on the national ballot for the All-American Selection Committee in Montgomery, Alabama on Monday, May 24. The Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year from the region are guaranteed a spot on one of the three All-American teams selected in Montgomery.
