SHEPHERD BASEBALL SWEEPS ALDERSON-BROADDUS

PHILIPPI, W.Va. -- Shepherd University used a 29-hit attack on the day to earn a doubleheader sweep over host Alderson-Broaddus in WVIAC baseball action on Saturday afternoon at Alderson-Broaddus. The Rams took an 13-5 win in game one and added an 8-7 triumph in the nightcap.

Senior outfielder Joe Cook (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County HS) went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs to lead the Rams. Senior second baseman Nicky Brown (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville HS/ Potomac State) went 4-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Senior outfielder Collin Brown (Durham, NC/Southern Durham HS/NC State) added three hits, while sophomore first baseman Dirk Webb (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville HS) added a pair.

Webb, Collin Brown, freshman third baseman Andrew McCormick (Stephens City, VA/Sherando HS) and sophomore pitcher designated hitter Josh Bowers (Williamsport, MD/Williamsport HS) each smacked home runs for the Rams.

Brett Twigg went 2-for 4 with a two-run homer to lead the Battlers.

Ram starter Scott McCormick (Stephens City, VA/Sherando HS/Potomac State) picked up the win and improved his record to 4-1 on the year. Battler starter Eduardo Castro took the loss.

Collin Brown (3-4, 3 runs, 2 2B, 1 RBI) and junior designated hitter Matt Noll (Charles Town, WV/Jefferson HS) (2-2, 2B, 3 RBIs, 1 run) led the Rams in the nightcap. Joe Cook added a pair of hits and drove in two runs.

Alderson-Broaddus got a two-run homer from Twigg in the bottom of the seventh inning to close to within a run at 8-7. With two on and two out, Ram reliever Dirk Webb got Sean Rogers to fly out to left to end the game.

Senior pitcher Chris Anderson (Middletown, MD/Middletown HS/Hagerstown CC) gained the win in the nightcap to improve to 4-0. Michael Torres took the loss for the Battlers.

Shepherd improves to 11-5, 2-0 on the year, while Alderson-Broaddus falls to 3-4, 0-2. The two team return to action on Sunday with doubleheader action starting at 1:00 p.m.
