SHEPHERD TAKES PAIR FROM BATTLERS

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Junior third baseman Nicky Brown (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville HS/ Potomac State) smacked a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Rams to an 8-6 win over Alderson-Broaddus in the nightcap to give the Rams a sweep in WVIAC baseball action at Fairfax Field on Friday. Shepherd won game one with a 6-3 triumph.

Junior outfielder Joe Cook (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County HS) and freshman third baseman Dirk Webb (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville HS) each had two hits to lead the Rams in game one. Webb drove in a pair of runs on a double and a two-run homer. Junior catcher David Toth (Lexington, KY/Lexington Christian Academy/Potomac State) added a three-run blast, while freshman second baseman Josh Bowers (Williamsport, MD/Williamsport HS) added a solo shot.

Ram starter Tony Magnanelli (Frederick, MD/ Frederick HS) struck out six over six innings and evened his record at 2-2. Junior reliever Austin Bowie (Paeonian Springs, VA/Loudoun Valley HS) picked up his first save of the year with a hitless frame in the seventh. Rossi Gaudio took the loss for the Battlers.

Sophomore outfielder Eric Chrisman (Winchester, VA/Handley HS) went 3-for-3 to pace the Rams in the nightcap. Nicky Brown and junior outfielder Ryan Harju (Purcellville, VA/Loudoun Valley HS/ Hagerstown CC) added two hits each, while David Toth belted his second homer of the day with a three-run blast in the second inning.

Matt Abbott and Alan Baumann each had a pair of hits for the Battlers in the nightcap.

Senior pitcher Scott Koscielniak (Severn, MD/ Old Mill HS/CCBC-Catonsville) worked the final 1 2/3 innings and improved his record to 4-1 on the year. Chad Southern suffered the loss for Alderson-Broaddus.

Shepherd improves to 11-6 overall, 5-0 in WVIAC action, while Alderson-Broaddus falls to 1-22, 0-2. The two teams return to action on Saturday for a single game at 1:00 p.m. at Fairfax Field.
