SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV -- Shepherd College swept Alderson-Broaddus in WVIAC baseball doubleheader action at Fairfax Field on Wednesday. The Rams smacked 17 hits en route to a 15-5 win in game one, and earned the sweep with an 11-5 triumph in the nightcap.
Mike Spry (Kent County/Chestertown, MD) led the Rams in game one with a 4-for-4 effort with six RBI, including a grand slam in the fourth inning. Charlie Drummond (Strasburg/Strasburg, VA) went 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Josh Delawder (Paw Paw (Potomac State)/Paw Paw, WV) was 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Ben Garver went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBI to pace Alderson-Broaddus.
Ram starter Brian Renner (Handley (Potomac State)/Winchester, VA) went the first five innings and earned his seventh win of the year. Mark Ankney suffered the loss for the Battlers.
Shane Wines (Warren County/Front Royal, VA) went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI to lead a 12 hit Ram attack in game two. Joe Cook (Loudoun County/Leesburg, VA) and Drummond added two hits apiece.
J.R. Fitzwater (Hedgesville (Potomac State)/Hedgesville, WV) scattered nine hits over the first five innings to gain his seventh win of the season. Matt Zimmerman took the loss for A-B.
Jerred Novotny and Josh Smith each had three hits to lead the Battlers.
Shepherd improves to 17-15 overall, 11-5 in WVIAC play, while Alderson-Broaddus falls to 17-16, 11-11. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to WVU-Tech for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
