DRUMMOND GAINS ALL-AMERICAN HONORS

MONTGOMERY, AL --Senior catcher Charlie Drummond (Strasburg, VA/ Strasburg HS) of the Shepherd University baseball team gained a spot on the 2004 Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association's All-America team.

Drummond, a second team selection, joins Mike Spry (2003) and Ty Hart (1997) as the only players to gain All-America honors under head coach Wayne Riser. The North Atlantic Region Player of the Year led Shepherd with a .414 batting average. He also led the Rams in hits (58), total bases (127), home runs (19), slugging percentage (.907), on base percentage (.502), and saves (8). He also tied for the team lead in runs (35). Drummond caps a brilliant career with the Rams with numerous school records. He holds the Shepherd single-season marks for home runs (19 - 2004) and shares the single season mark for doubles (17, 2003). Drummond also holds the Shepherd career marks for runs batted in (179) and grand slams (4).

Shepherd gained its first WVIAC title under Riser this season and finished the year with a 24-17 overall mark.

The team was announced Monday at the NCAA Division II baseball championship in Montgomery, Ala., by the ABCA's All-America committee.
